This Company is a Nightmare to Work With!
By Linda R. Hendrex
I got my Champion Juicer about 15 years ago, and LOVED it. It is a well made and versatile workhorse that does everything from grinding grain to making peanut butter. However do not be fooled by the new machines. They look the same, but the interior configuration is different. It does not work the way it is supposed to, and the company doesn't care.

Several years after I got my juicer, my mother-in-law wanted to get a better juicer than the centrifigual one she already had. Upon MY advice, she gave away her old, reliable juicer and bought a Champion. I was shocked that the motor sounded loose and rattly, and the pulp came out wet and drippy. Hardly any juice came out. It was obviously a piece of junk that was either broken, or poor quality, or both.

I called Whole Foods, where it was purchased, and they said that they did not offer any warranties on their juicers. They advised me to contact Champion directly. When I called the Champion company, the person who answered the phone was rude and defensive. She said that they had "upgraded" the unit, and that the noise simply reflected the "better" motor. She flatly denied that the machine could possibly be defective, and she said that the company policy does not allow refunds. She claimed that we must be doing something wrong - it didn't matter that I already owned one and knew how it was supposed to work. My only choice was to ship this extremely heavy machine back to California (AT MY OWN EXPENSE), or accept it as is!

So my unfortunate mother-in-law had given away her good juicer, and was stuck with one that barely worked. It languished in her cupboard for a long time, unused. Now, several years later, she is caring for a sick family member, and desperately needs fresh juice. We lugged it out, thinking that it was better than nothing, but when we plugged it in today, it wouldn't even turn on. The machine is totally dead, and she did not even get a single full glass of juice from it! Of course, the company claims that "nothing is wrong with the machine".

My suggestion is that if you want a good juicer, buy an Omega, or purchase a used Champion that is more than 15 years old.

5best kitchen tool i've ever purchased
By J. Sack
I've owned this juicer for 8 years, and have never had a problem. Of course, I only juice apples, oranges, carrots, grapefruit, ginger, and beets, so I do not know how stuff like spinach, broccoli, wheatgrass, and the sort turn out. Clean-up involves brushing off 5 parts, which takes about one minute. Just buy a nylon bristle brush, make sure to use only warm water (never hot so as not to mis-shape the pieces), and clean immediately after use. To give you an idea of how economical this machine is, and juicing in general: yesterday, i bought an 18 pound bag of Texas Rio Red grapefruit for $6. There were 21 grapefruit, large and very juicy. I used 4 this morning to make three large beer mug-size glasses. That is 29 cents times 4, for a total of $1.20, approximately. $1.20 divided by 3 glasses is 40 cents. Very good compared to $3 or $4 at a juice shop, where they are normally adding apple juice from concentrate or ice. I just hope mine goes 27 years like the other reviewer's.

5Champion Juicer
By Trixie
This is possibly the best juicer on the market. I have owned mine for twenty-seven (27) years! I have never had a problem with it, and it has aided me in improving my health. I beg to differ with the other reviewer, as I juice wheatgrass fairly often, with no trouble.

strengths and weaknesses
By The Delite Rancher
Drawbacks
My SoloStar II has been plagued by problems. In less than a year, many of the outer parts have broken. The juicing screen ($35.00) has broken three times. When the juicing screens break, it happens before the pulp container is even full. As a result, the auger and juicing screen need to be cleaned constantly within a session. The screen locking cap ($5.80) has also broken. Speaking of the auger, even that cracked ($35.00). Several times, I e-mailed customer service about such issues with no reply. When I called, Tribest Life promptly sent out free replacement parts.

Benefits
When the parts aren't breaking, the SoloStar II works very well. It's simple to assembly and operate. The actual extraction process seems efficient. Cleaning is a breeze since most of the parts rinse under the sink. The only cleaning challenge is the juicing screen. Along these lines, the modified toothbrush that comes with the unit is worthless. I now use a steel auto detailing brush that does a great job. The SoloStar II is visually pleasing and the unit operates at a good volume. I was inspired to purchase the juicer after watching the online video as hosted on the Tribest Life web page. It accompanies the juicer in VHS format. Being a first time juicer, this was extremely helpful.

In conclusion, there are benefits and drawbacks to the SoloStar II. While it may have been a good introduction to the juicing world, I definitely look forward to an upgrade. Talking to juicers (people who juice, not the machines;), it seems that you really need to spend around $350.00-$400.00 before getting a quality juicer. Should you decide to purchase the SoloStar II, make certain that you send in the warranty/registration card. That was essential in getting parts replaced at no charge.

4Quiet
By Elliot
It's quiet. What a change from the previous juicer that sounded like a chainsaw in the kitchen. The only way I have to judge whether it seems to juice better is the dampness of the extruded pulp. This one makes far drier pulp than our previous. Juice is juice to me, but this one seems to work more effectively. And did I say it was quiet?

5Solo Star II works perfectly if you just follow the directions!
By Christine H. Farlow
I purchased my Solo Star II in May 2008. I had a couple centrifugal juicers before I purchased the Solo Star II, so I was accustomed to shoving the carrots and other veggies and fruits down the chute quickly and having the juice come out just as fast.

The directions for the Solo Star II specifically say to cut the fruits and veggies you're juicing into small chunks about 1" long. I thought I could just push the carrots and other veggies down slowly, without cutting them into small pieces. It worked at first, but as time went on, the juicer was backing up, and there were chunks of carrots and other veggies in the juice. And my juicing screen cracked. I had it replaced under warranty.

After I got the new juicing screen, all was working as when I first got the juicer. However, shortly thereafter, the same problems started occurring again. Before I called customer support this time, I went back and read the instruction manual one more time. I decided to follow the instructions to the "t" and see if that made a difference. By George it did! The juicer started working flawlessly again. I experimented and tried cutting the carrots into 1 1/2" pieces when juicing. While the juicer didn't back up and there weren't chunks of carrots in the juice, there was more carrot pulp accumulated on the auger and in the juicing screen. When I went back to 1" pieces, again it worked flawlessly with less accumulation of pulp inside the juicer.

There's something to be said for following the directions - exactly. I've had my Solo Star II for a year now and as long as I take the time to follow the directions "exactly," it works flawlessly.

5by far the best juicer for the $$$
By F. G. Carroll
Two reasons why this juicer is the best out there...1) it presses or masticates the vegetable or fruit, rather than centrifugally cutting them, thus preserving vital nutrients in the process (kind of defeats the point of juicing when you're killing the enzymes before you're given a chance to ingest them like the centrifugal juicers do) and 2) by comparison to the omega juicer(it's cousin), it's cheaper, looks the same, and does the exact same thing. and a few extra perks include very easy clean up (probably one of the better in this department), the luxury of making your own nut butters, it's ability to juice wheatgrass, and the fact that it's quieter than most juicers, especially the centrifugal ones. have fun. fully recommend.

5Outstanding machine - outstanding company to buy from
By Rocky Ruggiero
I am a huge juicer. Every morning my wife and I juice. We noticed that our juiceman jr was not efficiently juicing our green vegies. It was wasting 90% of them. The green veggies (expensive I might add) went right into the plastic bin hardly touched. I went to Jamba Juice and they explained how an auger presses the green juices - and, that's what Jamba uses for their wheat grass....well, the rest is history. I did my homework and found out that augers are more efficient just like Jamba explained. And, kitchens best walked me through the entire thing. Plus, they offered a 90 day money back warranty. They are incredibly nice and I can't believe they offer that kind of awesome money back gaurantee. Anyway, they are RIGHT about the juicer - it absolutely presses out 95% more green juice than the Jack Lalane and Juice man Jr. styles..and it does a better job on apples, ginger, and everything else too. The ONLY down side is - it's a slower process. But, in life - you can't have everything. I would much rather take a minute or two more each day and get my monies worth out of the fruits and veggies I buy than to speed through it and waste my food. Also, I seriously think it tastes better too!! Reason being, the other style spins it so fast - I swear it tasted "burned" sometimes. The Samson seems sweeter and more mellow. Anyway, trust me - you won't go wrong with this juicer or this company. Lovely company. Fair price too. Nobody offers a 90 day warranty...not even KMART OR WALLMART!! Nuff said. Buy it - you will thank me later.

5Great juicer
By Valerie P
Being used to the simple cheap spin models, I was put off when I saw all the parts that came with this juicer. However, once I took a minute to look through their instructions manual, it became clear how it all goes together. The reason it looks like so many parts is that there are different nozzles and stuff for the different functions of the machine. The manual has very good color pictures and illustrations so they made it pretty simple, even for someone who (like me) hates reading through manuals.

Much quieter than my spin model, for sure, and the pulp came out much drier as well. Specially with the cucumbers. I was used to having a wet sloppy mess being left over when I tried to juice cucumbers- not so with this juicer.

It looks very sturdy and well put together, and disassembling it and cleaning it (in the kitchen sink, not the dishwasher) took me 3 minutes in all. Not bad.

4Great ompany great juicer
By hester
I bought the Samson 6 in one to juice wheatgrass and other veggies and am very pleased with this juicer. It does a fine job on wheatgrass especially. I run the wheatgrass pulp through again to get those extra few drops out. The customer service personnel at kitchen best are super polite and helpful as well as knowledgeable about their products. They deliver service that is lacking with most company's these day's. How can you go wrong with a 90 days satisfaction guarantee.

5Omega Quality For Leafy Greens-
By J Keistler
I purchased this juicer at least partially out of curiosity. I've had a Champion 25+ years, an Acme for 20, and Breville, L'Equip and Omega centrifugal juicers.

The problem with these centrifugals is that they are awful for leafy greens. The Champion will do leafy greens okay, but I was interested in higher yield. Plus, I do enjoy a shot of wheatgrass and the Champion won't do it at all.

I looked at both twin-gear and single-auger types. Twin-gear juicers are still being developed, so I ended up single-auger. After watching the TriBest infomercial demonstrated by some babe who acted like she was on cocaine, I went to Omega. My Omega centrifugal works flawlessly. I purchased the 8003 over the 8005 or 8006 because I like white appliances.

The 8003 is heavier than it appears in photos. However, it is quite compact, smaller than my Champion. Assembly is quite simple; the auger housing, auger, screen and end cone fit logically and the locking wheels are able to be operated with wet hands. As stated by another reviewer, the feed tube is not large; if one wants to drop whole pieces of fruit in this isn't the juicer for you. This is by far the quietest juicer I've owned.

No, where this juicer excels is with leafy greens. It will happily chomp its way through any green one wants. Unlike the Champion, stringy greens such as celery won't accidentally get wound around the auger. The trick with this juicer is to let the slow-turning auger feed at its own speed, helped with the pusher. BTW if anyone wants to see this juicer in action, go to YouTube and there are several excellent demos. I can run several carrots at a time through the big-mouth Breville; not on this juicer. However, of course, the Breville won't do leafy greens as this one does!

The downside to a white juicer is that carrots and beets can stain. Doesn't bother me, but if that could be a problem, buy the chrome finish one with black peripherals.

I know there has been a model 8006 introduced recently with an auger that's supposed to be several times harder than the melamine one used here. For ~$125 more, I don't see the benefit. I expect the price on the 8006 will drop when the novelty wears off.

If one wants to juice carrots, apples, and other firm fruit, a centrifugal will probably be the juicer of choice. I still use mine for these. However, if one wants to increase leafy greens in one's diet, one of these will definitely fill the bill.

5I'm in love!

I LOVE, LOVE this juicer!! I had read a lot of reviews from different sites (positive and very negative ones!). I don't understand those that complain about how slow and "messy" the juicer is...messy?! are u kidding me? this juicer is not messy at all, the clean up is easy; just rinse under the tap and leave out to dry. I didn't even have to use the little brush to scrub the parts. As for speed...Juicing isn't fast food!! Don't be put off by people saying that the juicer is slow; I previously had a centrifugal type juicer (and those things are fast!), although the Omega is slower, once you start juicing you'll have a glass of juice in less than five minutes. For those complaining that they have to chop up the vegs into small pieces, give me break and don't be lazy! if you actually bother to chop your veg/fruit into appropriate sizes, all you do is drop it in and the juicer takes care of the rest all on it's own, you don't even have to bother to push it in with that plunger thing. Some have mentioned that it doesn't juice carots too well; this one was a big concern of mine, but I found no problem with juicing carrots, it juices them just fine for my taste. I found myself using a little less of what I usually use to make juice, so this juicer makes plenty of juice! I haven't used the other features yet (I bought this mainly for juicing), but I'm sure I will be impressed. Buy this juicer, you won't be disappointed and your mind and body will thank you.

Peace

5Sweeeeet!
By A. L. Houswerth
I LOVE this thing! What more can I say?? I got it based on positive reviews and I have NOT been disappointed. It even gets all the oil out of flax seeds when I run them through--the waste is dry as cardboard! With juicier things like grapefruit I have to run them through a couple times but it only takes a second, and it's worth it. It gets all the liquid out of anything--wheatgrass, seeds, fennel...definitely worth it.

I am very happy with the product. The time it takes to extract juice and clean the equipment is minimal. I feel the amount of juice extracted is also good.

Product Description

The Lexen Electric Healthy Juicer is the new standard in juice extractors. This is a powerful masticating type juicer that 'crushes' fruits and vegetables, including hard vegetables such as carrots. Since there is no heat generated as in other juicers, all of the enzymes are preserved for a fresh and 'live' tasting juice. The affordable price allows everyone to enjoy the incredible health benefits of juicing. More importantly the machine is made of quality parts which will last a lifetime. This is represented by its 8-Year Warranty on its motor and 1-Year Warranty on parts. This machine has so many different functions than just a juicer! Making pasta, nut butters, healthy baby food, frozen desserts and being a soy milk maker make the price truly unbelievable. The machine also includes TWO specially designed augers; one for wheatgrass and one for fruits and vegetables. This unit has a stainless steel shaft, 2.63 Horsepower Motor slow turning 76 RPM auger (keeps nutrients in tact) and is incredibly easy to clean! This is a single gear masticating type juicer. Low Yield
By J. GERBER
We recently received our juicer and are dissatisfied with our purchase. We felt compelled to write a review as we had also read the reviews here as part of our decision to buy this Lexen juicer. While this juicer is easy to clean, our complaint is the juicer produces a significantly low yield. In all fairness here is a quote from the juicer manual as to the expected procedure for getting the best yeild from the juicer:

"Step 5 - Take the pulp from the first pressing and place it back into the juicing Chamber as the first pressing is usually a bit moist until the pressure has been built up in the mechanism. If at any time the grass becomes wrapped around the auger or stuck in the juicing body. Press the off button and then use the reverse button to unclog, then press the on button again to resume juicing."

We experienced low yield with not just wheat grass but in juicing carrot, celery and spinach. We've resolved to using our other juicer because the yield is significantly greater.

If you intend on returning this juicer, you can find the return policy on the http://www.lexenproducts.com site:

"Q. Can I return the juicer if I do not like it?
A. You may return the juicer if it has not been used. A 10% restocking fee will apply. Postage will not be refunded. "

In other words, after we found that the yield was not worth the money in food product or time in producing the same yield as our other juicer, we are not able to return this product.

5The best value - the best juice - I"M SO HAPPY!
By JuiceManGreg
I've tried some other juicers like the Juiceman and wasn't very happy with it. I needed to juice wheatgrass but also wanted to juice fruits and veggies but had a limited budget. I hadn't heard of Lexen before and found out it was fairly new - but I went out on a limb and tried it out.

Overall - I must say I love it. The cleanup is a breeze and my friend has a Samson so we compared cleanup (had a juicer war!). I definatley won that one. We did a comparison on the yield too and hers won slightly but not much.

What I like about this vs my old juiceman (and even from what I read the other juicers of this type in the market) is that it doesnt have a screen inside to clean which is pretty much why I won the cleaning contest ;-)

Havn't had a problem yet - and THANKS!!

Another thumb down for lexen electric juicer
By tony
Trying to save money and live healthy by juicing, I bought this Lexen Electric Healthy Juicer from the internet. The first one that was shipped to me, had problem starting. After calling the support, I was told to check the fuse. But the fuse was OK. So the support sent me a replacement. The replacement also had problem starting. I figured the contact between the fuse and the contact point inside the juicer, was not good. Hence I jammed a small ball of aluminium foil into the fuse hole to ensure tight fit contact circuit through the fuse. It worked. The juicer can be switched on reliably. I used it to juice wheatgrass and it often got jammed and needed to hit on the reverse button to reverse the augur to unjam the juicer. But after the fourth juicing session, the reverse action of the juicer gave up on me. Now I just print out online coupon whenever I can find it, and go to Jamba Juice store to get my healthy drink.

5Fast, easy to use. Very glad I bought it!
By Jennifer P. Bell
I mainly needed a new juicer for juicing wheatgrass. This machine is great because not only can it juice grass but it can also be used for vegetable and fruit juicing. It has completely replaced my other vegetable and fruit juicer!! Now I just have one machine that does it all! Also a big bonus is that is also makes soy milk! Frozen healthy sorbets, and all natural nut butters, I made cashew butter and it was great and cheaper then buying at the store. Oh yes, I also made fresh pasta, and salsa. The clean up is so easy, the parts won't rust, (which is the reason my old juicer needed to be replaced). It's a breeze a take apart and put back together, just a few seconds. It's a dream, couldn't be happier with this product. Oh yes and it really squeezes the last drop out of the wheatgrass, the pulp comes out bone dry! My last juicer did not do that. I'm getting more juice for my buck!

3A mixed review
By High Plain Drifter
All the good things from the other reviews are correct. Versatile, long warranty, easy to clean, etc. But there is a catch. I purchased only for wheatgrass which I juice daily for health reasons. The manual says to feed very small quantities at a time, less than with other juicers, OR SEVERAL OF THE PLASTIC BITS won't take the strain. So you can either constantly watch how you feed the hopper or pay the price. I am on my third juice strainer (an internal non-optional part) because the other two shattered. Not a pretty sight. Keep this in mind

5Excellent product
By JH
Bought this for wheatgrass juicing, but I am really impressed with the fact that I can make other stuff with it. Several pasta attachments!!

The one negative review on this product vaguely talks about it taking too long, which is not my experience. Maybe they want something more like a blender. I don't know. Anyway, its a hard-core juice extractor, so you wouldn't expect it to process the food at warp speed! It works about as fast as the wheatgrass juicer they use at Jamba Juice from what I can tell. It's also easy to clean.

5Identical to the J8006, better than the J8005, and a most cost-effective juicer for greens
By Aaron702
My wife and I have had this for four months of intense juicing of cabbage and occasionally broccoli. My wife had multiple stomach and duodenal ulcers from medications due to a spinal injury and we combed the internet looking for studies on the best home remedies, as prescription antacids were not healing her. We chanced across two studies on raw cabbage juice healing ulcers in a matter of weeks, so that led me to research juicers.

There are four basic types of juicers. In order of general effectiveness (least effective to most effective) on greens, they are as follows:

1. Spinning blade/centrifugal ($50-$200)
2. Single-gear masticating (like this one) ($200-$350)
3. Double-gear masticating ($425-$550)
4. Hydraulic press w/shredder ($1,000-$2,500)

We were hoping the ulcers would heal quickly and I didn't plan to invest much. In reading the reviews on the spinning blade-type extractors, they seemed a poor choice for leafy greens, but quite good for fruits and other types of vegetables. One additional caveat I found was that juice from such juicers didn't keep that long, apparently due to oxidation and heat friction. My wife grew up with such a juicer and she had always enjoyed it, but she agreed it wouldn't work well for wringing juice from a cabbage.

Next came the single-gear juicers, and these varied from steel to melamine construction to a new high-tech super-hard GE plastic. Steel can oxidize fruit juice and melamine is a soft plastic that is most known for appearing in contaminated animal food from China, which in tests artificially appears as protein. Neither of these sounded good, but in reviewing the latest versions of the J8006/J8004 (they are identical except for the color and $40 difference), I found Omega was using GE Ultem, a plastic at least six times harder than melamine for the augur. This was a huge plus to me.

The double-gear juicers appear to get about 15% more juice out of the same amount of produce, but take quite a bit more time to clean. They are also twice the cost of single-gear juicers. This wasn't worth it to me.

Finally, the hydraulic press juicers get the most juice out, but can cost thousands of dollars. I couldn't find one under $800.

Our Experience:

I decided to get the J8004 and we went to town using it. It's been used probably 40 times so far for about 45 - 60 minutes each time. I make two quarts of cabbage juice at a time and it's refrigerated, with my wife drinking all of it within two days. At the end of the second day, if it's been kept sealed in the refrigerator, the juice tastes virtually identical to when it was juiced (just shake it up a bit because the juice settles).

Directions for the juicer say it shouldn't be used more than 30 minutes at a time. This isn't a problem, as I prepare two plates of cabbage leaves, juice them, turn off the machine, then prepare two more plates of leaves at a time.

The Omega leaves some juice in the pulp, which I now recapture by feeding the mash back through the machine. Strangely, the extra passes go very fast compared with the first one with the leaves, basically because the mash goes in the tube with absolutely no friction, and is much less volume to handle. In general, if you are juicing cabbage leaves, this is how each pass juices out if you got 600 milliliters with the first two platefuls:

1st time - 600 milliliters
2nd time - 150 ml more
3rd time - 50 ml more
4&5th time - 50 ml more total

Yes, the double-gear machines might get more each pass, but I figure that putting cabbage through three times is more than equal to putting the it through twice on a double-gear, and I save $250 for that net of one extra pass.

The unit has held up well and has never stained from all the greens touching it, so save forty dollars and get this over the silver J8006 twin (both units are superior to the J8005 because that unit, strangely numbered higher than this, uses a melamine auger and has only a 10 year warranty). The parts all rinse clean in no time, save for the two filtering portions on the cone the augur presses against. These require a brushing motion (one is included) to clean, and even then the part with the fine mesh retains some cabbage fiber. Fortunately, we put the parts in the dishwasher where anything remaining can be blasted off.

We've used it to mass-grind coffee with an included grinding option. It grinds a pound of coffee in about three minutes.

You can't go wrong with an Omega J8004 if you are juicing greens. We would definitely buy this again, but due to the incredibly long warranty, we don't expect to buy anything for over 15 years!

UPDATE: We've now used it more than 60 days on cabbage and broccoli and used it to make wonderful blueberry sorbet (using the second cone unit for grinding). Putting frozen wild blueberries into it makes a sorbet come out the end that if allowed to thaw, is a perfect cold blueberry juice. This summer we have been using it in this capacity far more than for cabbage. WONDERFUL! (NOTE: My wife's ulcers completely healed by the two month point, so we've moved on to other juicing other items.)

5The Great Masticator: Omega 8004/8006 perfect for lazy first-time juicers like me
By J. Kim
Video review for the Omega 8004 (white version of the 8006) masticating juicer

Likes: Base has a compact 11"x8" footprint, 15-year warranty, quiet operation, ease of juice (har har), 30-second clean-up, efficient, produces a dry pulp, juice is low-foam and fantastic, multi-functional - can be used with included attachments to make nut butters, grind coffee, mince produce, and extrude pasta.

Dislikes: A little slow, narrow 1.5" feed tube, soft/juicy items like cucumbers and citrus fruits need to be pushed down to prevent jamming.

Green juice recipe in the video (sorry I presented some items out-of-frame, I'm a first-time videographer too), produces about 2 cups of juice in 5-6 minutes:

3 stalks celery
6 large romaine leaves
Big handful spinach (2 oz)
Small bunch of fresh herbs (parsley, basil, cilantro, mint, or a mixture)
1 small (2") peeled lemon, with pith, halved lengthwise
2 small (3") green apples, cored and cut into eighths
1/2 large English cucumber, quartered lengthwise
1/2-inch piece of peeled ginger

Tips: Alternate hard fruits and veggies (apple, celery) with soft (lemon, cucumber) when pushing down the tube. Best to end with a hard veggie like celery or carrot to "clean-out" the auger. I place the filter directly on top of the juice collection basket (the smaller one, closest to the base), even though the manual tells you not to use it during the juicing process.

To clean, I disassemble and soak the parts in a bowl of hot water (the prep bowl works nicely if you're using one) while I drink or bottle the juice; then give the parts a quick rinse and air dry on the dishwasher rack.

5An Awesome Juicer & Great Investment
By T. Young
This is my first juicer and I am thrilled I made the right choice. I researched for about a month before I got my tax return and pulled the trigger, and it has turned out to be a great investment in my health. The machine is extremely durable as it has a full 15 year warranty. This is exactly the same model as the Omega J8006 that everyone loves so much (according to reviews) with the only difference being that it's white. A cosmetic difference but I'd rather keep the 40 bucks and be a little less fancy personally. Works great with everything I've thrown at it so far from wheatgrass to celery to carrots, apples, yams, pears, kiwis, zucchini, ginger, you name it. The only exception and this was an early mistake I made after I first got it and that is you don't want to juice bananas. Too mushy and just makes a mess. Extremely easy to take apart and clean though so within 5 minutes it was clean and ready to go again. Pulp comes out very dry so it is very efficient as well. All in all I think this model is probably hard to beat. Seems like it will last forever. Super easy to clean. What more could you want? 5 stars easy

5Omega 8006 Juicer
By Stephen D. Seidel
I have rated the 8006 at five stars because of its efficiency, ease of use and quality of materials. The newly designed auger is a translucent black material that GE calls ULTEM. The warranty has been increase from 10 years to 15 years. The juicer probably functions the same as the model 8005 and 8002 so all of the previous reviews apply to the 8006. The power switch is located at the lower back of the juicer and allows the auger to be reversed if something would become lodged in the mastication extraction tube. The Omega auger is patented and has a two stage screen for greater juice output compared to other brands. For example, five medium sized HoneyCrisp apples produced a full quart of wonderful clear pulp-free juice. The apple juice does not turn brown nearly as fast as the juice from centrifugal type juicers due to the lower oxidation from the 80 rpm auger. There is very little foam, and the included screen can be used to filter the final product, if desired. The Omega 8006 does a great job with carrots but with this juicer as with any juicer, the smaller the items, the greater the juice extraction efficiency. I need to point out that the feed tube is only about 1.5" in diameter. There lies the problem with large tube centrifugal juicers. They waste about 20% of the juice and this is significant when you count the price of organic produce. I use a little cutting board to slice items while the juicer pulls them in almost by itself. It works very well. I juice greens including wheat grass and parsley, which can adhere to the spinning basket of a centrifugal juicer and cause the basket to be out of balance. This happened to me with a JuiceLady JL-500 and it cracked the top of the juicer before I could turn it off. If you do not want to cut the produce into smaller pieces then this is not the juicer for you. I enjoy using the 8006 and I have yet to see a bad review of an Omega single auger juicer. Of all the juicers made, this is definitely in the top ten and some websites rate it as No. 1. I can recommend this Omega juicer with no reservations. Enjoy!

5Simple & Easy Clean up
By NW Shooter
I had the opportunity to experience juicing on a loaned Jack Lalanne's JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Electric Juicer, Stainless/Black. After juicing every day with it for over three weeks I realized I really was into juicing and it was not some new Gadget phase I was going through. So I did a ton of research and chose the Omega 8006.

The first thing I can tell you is this is not as noisy as the centrifuge juicer I tried (Jack L juicer). The sound is similar to an old hand mixer on low speed.

The second thing clean up took less time and was easier. Mainly the parts are smaller so they're easier to clean thoroughly. There are no awkward nooks & crannies where food can get stuck. The Omega 8600 clean up involves four main parts. The (1) shoot the food comes down, (2) blade is really a big plastic drill-bit looking thing, (3) the part which determines is the stuff you are grinding going to come out in juice form or a more solid form (such as pasta or banana yogurt!), (4) and finally the collector bins - either or both depending upon what you are doing. It takes more time for me to get the hot water going than the length of time it takes to do the clean up for the Omega 8600.

Preparation is a bigger deal than with other juicers because the opening is much smaller. Some carrots for example had to be cut in 4ths to get it down the shoot. As one reviewer said with another Omega model, it gives you time to think about what you are preparing. The liquid output appears bolder/brighter and without foam compared to the centrifuge juicer.

It's funny, I do notice I pause before preparing my juice to ponder would this be just as good for me if I were to sit and eat the orange, apple and carrots versus putting them into this machine and blend them. What enhances my experience with juicing is the other ingredients such as adding that bit of ginger - yum! When I was using the centrifuge, I thought more about if I had time to do the clean-up after.

The machine itself is sturdy. Having it in a place where you can add the ingredients easily rather than having it stuffed under the cabinet will enhance your access and ease of use.

I am VERY happy with the Omega 8600. It was difficult to wait the 3 weeks - I'm typically a want it now buyer. Mine showed up a few days earlier. I filled my time in cleaning out my refrigerator in preparing to integrate juicing in my diet.

See uploaded picture of my juicing station.

Finally one bit of advice.. No matter what kind of Juicer you acquire - CLEAN UP right after you juice, drink after - clean first! This prevents anything from WELDING to any parts later. Happy Juicing!

Great juice but auger is chipping / scratching.......
By Richard E. Crawford
HERE IS MY UPDATED REVIEW:
I promised an updated review here once my official verdict was in on this juicer, so here it is. Please see my original review, still retained here below.

I still will say that this juicer makes great carrot juice, no doubt about it. However I have found it to leave wheatgrass juice pulp more wet than I had expected it to based on other reviews.

Omega did, without any complaints, send me my replacement parts to determine if my auger was defective. The only problem here was that it took them... now let me think... I believe it was four separate shipments to actually get the order correct. And then in addition to that they said they were going to send me a mail tag to send the incorrect parts they sent me back for free, however, they never did, so I have parts to their other juicers that I would not use in this new model as well. Overall if I were rating their customer service / support, I would give a few separate ratings:
- Over the phone customer support in terms of speed at which they get you your replacement parts under warranty: 5 / 5 stars
- The probability that your warranty replacement order will be correct when you receive the package: 1 / 5 stars
- The probability that you will be taken care of if you email the company instead of calling them: 0 / 5 stars
These ratings are REAL numbers based on my experience.

Regarding the chipping auger, I have had better success now with the replacement auger. The erosion of the auger doesn't appear to be nearly as bad at all. However with that said, I believe that by the very nature of how this machine works, the plastic on metal action - and especially so when grinding foods using the blank plate - there will nearly always be some erosion of the auger, in particular for the first few times of use until I guess I could say the auger makes a "good fit" with your juicing or grinding plates.

The replacement auger I was sent had a chip out of it brand new. Then they sent me another one and it also had a noticeable chip out of it but in an inconspicuous place that would not harm the juicing process, so I left it alone at that point. These are just defects, I think, from the molding/manufacturing process.

Overall, yes this makes a great juice, and I've also used it to grind up almonds and dates and cashews and such things to make really great tasting nut bars. This machine does a pretty good job overall but as you can see you really play back and forth with what level of quality you are expecting from the machine itself in various tasks vs. the customer support as well. I have never tried the green star juicer because of the higher price but I suspect that would be the next step up from this one, with possibly a drier pulp - however i have never tried that juicer.

I believe that overall if at all possible you should try to find a way to use a juicer for a little while before you buy it, if you can locally in your area from a friend, etc. It would really help in your buying decision as to whether you really want to juice in the first place, and then which juicer is right for you. For now I have decided to sell my juicer and just stick with my vita-mix blender which I really love. I know it is definitely not a juicer, but I feel like I would have just rather bought a grain mill or something with my money instead of this juicer. If you are really in to juicing and know the ins and outs of what you want out of it then maybe this machine or a better one is for you, because it does perform, but I just can't handle all of the extra things that I found issue with that "came along with the juicer" as described above and below.

I hope this helps someone. I suspect there are higher quality juicers out there for critics like myself, but I am not prepared to spend more money now to find out, and I don't know anyone that has a green star. I think that for now at least, juicing is just not for me.

HERE IS MY PRIOR REVIEW:
I purchased this juicer and it arrived in the mail yesterday. I purchased because of the other great reviews out there for it being a great juicer all-around for pretty much everything, along with the great price. It seemed like the perfect package.

Let there be no doubt, this really does produce a great quality juice. I am a little nervous, however, about one thing. I washed all the parts for the first time and then I proceeded to make carrot juice with some greens in it, and then also tried some frozen bananas and strawberries to make a sorbet. Both recipes were very successful, and, the cleanup was also very easy. Although I should mention I had to partially thaw the strawberries as they were just too hard for the juicer to initially accept them.

My concern is that after cleaning and drying the auger, I noticed that even after only the very first use of the machine the auger has scratch marks on it - some of them noticeably deep. The scratch marks are from places where the auger comes in to contact with metal that is on the inside of the juicing screen. Also when I hold just the auger and the juicing screen in my hand and turn the auger inside of it, you can hear and feel how the auger seems to catch on something during the rotation.

I am currently giving this juicer a rating of three stars because although I have found it to produce an excellent quality juice for carrots and greens alike, the fact that plastic (or whatever the auger is made of) is slowly being added to my juice and the pulp makes me wonder if that is healthy!

I would greatly appreciate anyone's comments on this as I should also note that I am new to juicing, however, I have thoroughly examined the machine and how to assemble it and don't believe I've done anything which would have contributed to such easy scratching of the auger.

I have emailed Omega to ask about this concern but have not heard back so far (it's been 1 day since the email was sent so I'm giving them more time). I imagine they must be busy right now with the high demand for this new juicer.

It is my hope that I will be able to eventually up the rating from 3 to 5 stars, however, how could I with plastic chipping in to my food? I leave the rating at three stars because it really does make excellent juice, but at what cost (plastic in the food)?
